"Our first Mother's Day together"

I finally got around to painting something for Sesskag! I'm glad I have my wacom and computer back!

I see a lot of Sesskag children and I can't help but wonder why no one ever realized this: Sess looks just like his daddy, kagome is human (just like inuyasha's mom), their kid would look JUST like uncle inuyasha! One of them would at least. It amazes me that no one else has made this connection. So I've been itching to do a family picture with a daughter who looks adorably like her uncle.

Maybe I will get around to it before we leave for our short vacation, it may not make the mother's day contest.

Critique me baby! (I don't doubt I will go back to it and fiddle around some more, its hard not to)

This is an evocative image, given the two characters who are depicted. The mother is Kagome Higurashi, a human, and the father is Sesshomaru, an Inu-Youkai of great power. We know that it is Sesshomaru because of the claws and the wrist stripes.

There are a few things that I could suggest that might have an impact:

1. There really isn't anything in the drawing that tells us who the woman is. We only know that it is Kagome because we are told it is. Is there a way to indicate that it is Kagome within the simplicity of the image? I don't know. Kagome doesn't have bodily markings, nor does she wear anything in the way of jewelry that could be present. Of course, it's not required that she be explicitly identified. It was just a thought.

2. The overall techniques is very simple with simple lines and minimal shading. There is one thing that seems incongruous though: Sesshomaru's hands have claws, while Kagome's fingers don't even have fingernails.

3. The index finger on the far hand has only one bend in it. It is a bit difficult to bend only this joint without bending the one near the end of the finger. That makes this finger look a little out of place.

Otherwise, I find the image to be a lovely sentiment, and it shows strength, protectiveness, and emotion all at the same time. The "globe" of the stomach can be seen as how much a child becomes your "world" once it is born, and the hands are there to protect and guide as well as share the joy of procreation. All in all a fantastic pose for the two characters.

Also, the simple, muted colors are calming and appropriate for the nurturing atmosphere.

Well done!! I like it!!
